Strawberry Mara des Bois
History and origin
Mara des Bois is a recent variety of strawberry. Alexandre Marionnet, a pioneer in market gardening in Sologne, planted his first strawberries in the 1920s, after introducing the cultivation of asparagus. His son André Marionnet continued the adventure with a passion for the hybridization of new varieties. It was he who created Mara des Bois, marketed in 1991. Since then, this fragrant and tasty strawberry has become one of the most cultivated varieties in France, appreciated for its authentic taste and its aromatic qualities which appeal to strawberry lovers. .
Variety and cultivation
Recognizable, above all, by its woody and sweet scent (hence its name), enhanced with a hint of acidity, the Mara des bois strawberry likes light, rich soils, without excess humidity. An ever-growing variety, the Mara des bois strawberry is harvested by hand, with care, from June until the first frost.
