Lingonberry

History and origin

Native to the cold regions of the Northern Hemisphere, the lingonberry, also called the swamp blueberry, is a small tangy fruit that has been popular for centuries. Indigenous peoples of North America, in particular, harvested lingonberries for their nutritional and medicinal benefits, making them into paste or drying them for winter. In Europe, it was used for its antioxidant properties and to treat various infections. Widespread in the forests of Europe and North America, the lingonberry is today a symbol of resilience and adaptation, thriving in hostile environments and valued for its natural virtues.

Variety and cultivation

In France, nearly 40 varieties of apricots adapt to various climates. This diversity is supported by varietal research and modern techniques (anti-hail nets, anti-frost candles). Producers invest all year round in pruning, thinning and manual picking to guarantee an optimal harvest.

Did you know?

Lingonberry was once called “mountain plant” for its medicinal properties. In Europe, hunters carried dried cranberries to treat wounds and infections.
